During the aftermath of Argentina’s World Cup victory celebrations, Chelsea great John Terry couldn’t help but poke fun at Sergio Aguero and himself.
After retiring at 33 due to a heart issue, Aguero could not aid Argentina in Qatar.
However, he has maintained tight ties with the team, and his friendship with Lionel Messi is solid.
Aguero grabbed a jersey from his old Manchester City colleague Nicolas Otamendi and celebrated with the rest of Argentina after their penalty shootout triumph over France by raising the trophy.
In the 2012 Champions League final, Terry famously arrived in full uniform to claim the trophy while serving a suspension for the game.
As a commentator for beIN SPORTS, Terry said, “Aguero has gone for the whole John Terry there, hasn’t he?! I was the one who came up with the idea initially.
When asked about it on Twitter, he joked, “If your [sic] going to do it, at least go for it and put the shin pads and boots on.”
Ramires, a former Chelsea teammate of John Terry’s, has since stated that the full-kit shenanigans were not Terry’s idea but rather a requirement of the club.
Following the game, “we all transformed,” Ramires said to FourFourTwo in 2020.
The organisation proposed the concept because they wanted everyone to look their best in the team picture.
