Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich defeated Barcelona 3-1 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, marking Barcelona’s first loss since their Champions League final loss to Lyon in 2021/22.
Two goals from Klara Buhl and Lina Magull gave Bayern Munich a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes, as Barcelona failed to clear a pair of crosses from the flanks. The home crowd of 24,000 was a record for a Bayern Munich Women’s home match.
In the second half, Lea Schuller added a third goal before Geyse scored a consolation goal for the visitors.
The result ties Bayern and Barcelona on points at the top of Group D with two group stage matches left, while Barcelona has a better goal differential.
When the two teams met at Camp Nou two weeks ago, Barcelona finally prevailed 3-0 after slowly breaking down a determined Bayern side. However, they were surprised inside four minutes when Buhl scored the game’s first goal by redirecting Sydney Lohmann’s right-wing cross through a deflection off Irene Paredes.
Schuller provided the acceleration and delivery from the left flank, and Magull scored the opening goal six minutes later.
Schuller scored Bayern’s third goal around the hour mark, after Magull’s deep, arcing cross, with a powerful header.
Geyse charged down goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs, reclaimed possession, and scored into an empty net with 25 minutes left to play for La Blaugrana.
They subsequently pressed for a second goal but were unable to find a way through Bayern’s tenacious defence, which dug in to seal a legendary triumph.
