Bukayo Saka has refuted claims that his current form for England is equal to that of Kylian Mbappe during France’s 2018 World Cup run.
Since making his Three Lions debut in 2020, Arsenal ace Saka has been Gareth Southgate’s favorite player.
He has now scored three goals in this World Cup, with his most recent coming in Sunday’s 3-0 victory against Senegal in the round of 16.
England will face France in the quarterfinals. On Monday, the media pointed out to Saka that his current run echoes Mbappe’s from Les Bleus’ victory four years ago, including winning the tournament’s young player award.
“Thank you for the praise, but I believe Kylian Mbappe is unique!” Saka said.
“Concurrently, there is only one of me. I want to be myself and assist my team as much as possible. There are many young players in this competition; I can identify many of them. Even on our squad, young player Jude Bellingham is doing astoundingly well.
“I’m simply glad we’re all here and healthy. It is more important to win the tournament than to be named tournament player or young player of the tournament.”
