Gareth Southgate talks about he is not worried that Harry Kane and Harry Maguire left the game early during Monday’s 6-2 win over Iran.
Tottenham striker Kane seemed to hurt his ankle soon after halftime, but he kept playing until the end of the game when he was seen leaving the stadium with a strapping around his ankle.
Maguire had to leave the game after Mehdi Taremi’s first goal. Many people thought he had a concussion, but it turned out he was just sick.
England’s World Cup journey continues on Friday when they play the USA. Luckily for England, Southgate isn’t worried about either player.
“[Maguire] felt sick, and he flagged it just before the goal. Given the state of the game, he felt there was no point in playing on,” Southgate said after the match. “Besides that, I haven’t seen anything else to worry about.”
Gareth Southgate talks about Kane: “Harry seems fine to me. It looked like a bad tackle, but he kept playing, and we took him out when he thought we could.”
Southgate’s main concern is getting Kyle Walker and James Maddison back to full fitness.
Walker was on the bench against Iran, but he didn’t play in the game. Maddison was left out of the game because he is still having trouble with a hamstring injury that has kept him from training in Qatar.
