Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for England, praised Jordan Henderson after the Three Lions’ resounding 3-0 victory against Senegal at the World Cup.
Gareth Southgate’s team finally advanced to the quarter-finals with a performance that improved throughout the night. Henderson and Jude Bellingham stood out in particular, with the former scoring first.
Henderson has lately been under fire for his performances and inclusion in England’s starting XI, but Bellingham has supported him wholeheartedly and called any criticism “nonsense.”
Post-match, the 19-year-old stated to ITV: “Today’s performance was superb (from Henderson).
“I’ve heard some insane things about him playing. He’s so underappreciated technically, and he delivered once again in a big game with a huge goal. So, sure, I believe it’s about time he earned some respect.”
Bellingham, who assisted Henderson for England’s opening goal, was asked how much England works on their team moves: “I don’t believe it’s something you focus on too much when you have that much talent on your squad.
“But, sure, we are given patterns, and we try to follow them as best we can, but when you have players like us who can play the ball on one touch, two touches, and break a team down, you kind of let them go.”
After a 3-1 victory against Poland, Bellingham and England will face France in the quarter-finals.
