Kylian Mbappe has pledged to lead France back to the World Cup final following Sunday’s loss to Argentina.
Kylian Mbappe became only the second player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final, but France lost in a penalty shootout to Argentina, dashing their hopes of defending their 2018 title.
Mbappe, who went on to win the Golden Boot, subsequently issued a message to his Instagram followers.
Mbappe told his admirers, “We’ll be back.”
The Paris Saint-Germain attacker is now sixth on the list of all-time World Cup scorers, tied with Brazilian legend Pele on 12 goals and achieving the feat in the same number of games (14).
Before Mbappe in the rankings are teammate Lionel Messi and compatriot Just Fontaine with 13 points. Fontaine is the tournament’s all-time leading scorer for Les Bleus, scoring 13 goals in six games in 1958.
Gerd Muller follows with 14, followed by the Brazilian Ronaldo with 15. The leader is the German Miroslav Klose, who scored 16 goals in 24 games between 2002 and 2014.
