Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot have done well in the first few months of Erik ten Hag’s time as manager, so Manchester United is confident that they will extend their contracts with the team, all football league has learned.
Both players are on United’s first team and have contracts that end in 2023. However, United has one-year extensions they can use if they want to keep the players in question from leaving for free in June.
A lot of players, like David de Gea, Luke Shaw, and Cristiano Ronaldo, will be able to talk to foreign clubs starting in January, if nothing changes. However, the club will have to decide what to do once the domestic season stops for the World Cup later this month.
Talks with Rashford and Dalot, two of United’s best players so far this season, are moving forward. It’s known that their plans are on track, and United already knows that they’d like both of them to stay for a long time. They’re hoping to wrap things up with both of them before the end of the year.
The timeline could be pushed back , if both players play for England or Portugal in the World Cup, but confidence remains. Rashford, in particular, is said to be enjoying life at United again after a couple of tough seasons. He also benefits from working withalso benefiting from working with both Ten Hag and Steve McClaren, who is one of the Dutchman’s assistants.
Dalot has been getting attention from teams like Barcelona. He recently said that he wasn’t thinking about his long-term future, but he is having his best time in the United first team because he has taken over the right back position.
Ten Hag is very happy with Dalot’s improvement and wants him to stay, but he still wants the club to get a new right back in 2023. Aaron Wan-Bissaka hasn’t played much for United since Ten Hag took over as manager, so the team is ready to get rid of him as soon as January. They hope to make a deal with Crystal Palace, where Wan-Bissaka used to play.
United wants to have competition for spots all over the field, and they don’t have a good back-up for Dalot. We’ve seen Ten Hag move left-back Tyrell Malacia to the other side to give the Portuguese a break when needed.
The club has the option to bring back Ethan Laird in January if they don’t sign a new player to back up Dalot. However, they are interested in Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen, Benjamin Henrichs of RB Leipzig, and Denzel Dumfries of Inter.
Max Aarons of Norwich and Josip Juranovic of Celtic are also possible options, but United hasn’t decided what to do yet. Aarons and Juranovic would likely need a few months to get up to speed with United’s standards.
