Wolves will have to fight off competition from other Premier League clubs to acquire Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha, according to “allfootballleague.”
As reported earlier this month, Wolves hoped to clinch a deal with Atletico Madrid to acquire both defender Felipe and striker Matheus Cunha, the latter of whom is due to depart Spain on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.
Cunha is interested in working with Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui, but sources have verified to “allfootballleague” that he wants to consider all of his alternatives before making a choice.
Indeed, Aston Villa, Everton, and Leeds have all contacted Cunha’s representation to negotiate a contract for the Brazilian.
Cunha’s entourage has also offered the 23-year-old to Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United in their hunt for a new club. Because of the club-friendly nature of the agreement, several of the clubs contacted have yet to rule out a transfer.
Atletico Madrid is anxious to shed Cunha’s salary and is willing to approve a loan move, which has attracted the curiosity of many clubs ahead of the January transfer window.
Cunha joined Atletico Madrid from Hertha BSC in 2021 for around €26 million. Initially, he seemed to be a success, scoring six goals and providing six assists in his first La Liga season. However, he has been unable to sustain this success.
Cunha failed to score in 17 appearances for Atletico before the World Cup break, albeit just two of those games were as a starter.
This season, Diego Simeone has chosen the attacking combination of Alvaro Morata, Antoine Griezmann, and Angel Correa, allowing Cunha to explore a transfer abroad.
