Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given an interview to the press ahead of the club’s return to Premier League play.
On Boxing Day, they welcome West Ham United to the Emirates Stadium in an attempt to sustain their championship push.
Mikel Arteta spoke to the media on various issues, including transfers, contracts, injuries, and more.
When Arsenal’s season resumes
“On the field, we must adjust. We’ve spoken about it a lot, and we understand the need of beginning strong again. We’re playing at home on a very significant day in Premier League history, Boxing Day, and it’s a family day to enjoy football. It’s a fantastic environment, and we want to make the most of it.”
Regarding injuries
“With Gabriel Jesus and what occurred at the World Cup with his injuries, it’s a significant setback. For a while, we’re going to miss him. But the season has its obstacles, which we must also face. To be at the top, you’ll have to confront this struggle.
“It’s impossible to put a timeline on Gabi. It was a severe injury, and knowing him, I prefer not to provide any specific dates.
“Unfortunately, I believe Reiss [Nelson] suffered an injury in the game against Juventus and will be out for some time. I’m talking about a few weeks, so we’ll see how he responds, but he felt something right immediately, which isn’t a good indication for sprinters.
“Emile [Smith Rowe] is nearby. He’s started to train again; he had a setback, but he’s back and in terrific shape.”
Regarding transfers
“We want to remain active, which means we intend to enhance the team. This team still does not have the luxury of not having to maximize every opportunity. However, it must be the correct player.
“We know where we are in terms of squad size and numbers. We’ll be very careful about what we do in the window.”
According to Gabriel Martinelli’s contract
“There is no news. I’m quite pleased with him. He had a positive experience with the Brazilian national squad, in my opinion. You may continue to inquire in the coming weeks.”
