Arsenal won 2-0 away at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Mikel Arteta credited his team’s “maturity” for the easy victory. With the win, Arsenal increased their advantage at the top of the Premier League to five points.
Arsenal needed a win against Wolves to further establish their title credentials after Manchester City’s shocking home loss to Brentford in the early afternoon kickoff.
After a scoreless first half, Arteta‘s squad finally broke through in the second with two goals from skipper Martin Odegaard to take home the victory and increase their lead at the top of the table to five points heading into the World Cup break.
Arteta, in high spirits after the game, told the BBC, “Thanks to the supporters for the support and the way they helped alter this club and the energy of everyone and they should enjoy it [being top of the league].”
In the first twenty to thirty minutes, we had a hard time breaking them down, but today we showed a different kind of maturity by playing their game. The second half was a completely different ballgame; we played with more confidence, took more chances, and didn’t give them any room to run.
Arteta said, “Unbelievable – without these individuals, we wouldn’t be in the situation we are” when questioned about the mindset and attitude within the Arsenal camp. The expansion of their numbers is continuous.
Arsenal’s season seems to be picking up steam and stature, therefore Arteta suggested he would prefer to keep playing and then take a break for the World Cup. Nevertheless, he wished his guys luck in the tournament.
I wish I could exercise with them tomorrow, but they aren’t here,” Arteta added. No experience can compare to representing your nation in the World Cup, therefore I hope all participating enjoy themselves and stay safe!
