Mikel Arteta has claimed that Arsenal took Granit Xhaka off the field Xhaka was taken off the field by Arsenal after only 15 minutes because he was sick. The team went on to win 2-0 over the Wolves.
The Swiss international didn’t seem his best early on, but has since become one of Arsenal’s important players as they’ve risen to the top of the Premier League.
Minutes into the game, Arteta signaled for Mohamed Elneny and Fabio Vieira to begin warming up, but Xhaka stayed in for as long as he could.
However, after 15 minutes, he was taken off the field and replaced by Vieira while visibly ill. After the match, Arteta said, “We had a few guys starting to feel sick just before kickoff.”
We couldn’t alter everyone, but he couldn’t go on. It’s odd that he couldn’t go on, but the team made adjustments and prevailed nevertheless.
Speaking to Sky, he elaborated, “Unfortunately we have another four players with the same symptoms (as Xhaka), so I don’t know what happened.”
Although Arteta verified that the 30-year-illness old’s is not injury-related, it is nonetheless bad news for the player’s World Cup preparations.
On November 17 against Ghana, Switzerland will begin its World Cup campaign, and the country will be hoping its talismanic player is healthy and ready to go.
