The Orlando Pride have signed Seb Hines to a multiyear contract, making him the team’s permanent head coach.
While the 2022 season was still in progress, Hines took over as manager after Amanda Cromwell was removed from her position following a suspension and league investigation on claims of workplace misbehavior. He had been the Prs assistant coach, and he was promoted to take charge for the rest of the season’s 15 games.
Hines made history when he was hired as the NWSL’s first Black head coach. And now he creates further history by becoming the first Black full-time head coach in the league’s history.
For Pride chairman Mark Wilf, “it became quite evident that he has earned the chance to continue leading our Club” after considering “what we want the future of the Pride to be,” hearing “player input,” .
The team made several improvements to the system, including the addition of Seb Hines to a permanent position. The Pride has stated that their GM position would be elevated to Vice President and General Manager of Soccer Operations in Toronto to devoting more manpower and funds to areas such as player training, analytics, scouting, and medicine.
The organization has also just severed ways with former general manager Ian Fleming and earlier fired both Cromwell and assistant coach Sam Greene.
The Pride is likely to make other roster adjustments throughout the offseason.
