Chris Henderson, Inter Miami’s chief soccer officer, and sporting director, and Phil Neville, the team’s head coach, have both declined to comment on rumors linking the club to Lionel Messi.
The Herons are one of at least three MLS clubs interested in signing the legendary Argentine forward. Former club FC Barcelona is also reportedly considering making a move for Messi.
A new one-year deal for Neville as head coach of Inter Miami was announced earlier this week. Henderson and Neville were asked about the rumors involving Messi at the press conference that followed, but they avoided directly answering the questions.
To paraphrase, “I knew Messi would come up!” Henderson remarkeda remark to the press. Having such incredible links to other players is fantastic. Someone who isn’t on our team isn’t someone I feel comfortable discussing.
Messi scored twice in La Albiceleste’s 3-0 triumph over Honduras at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami back in September while he was training with the Argentina national team.
Neville mentioned seeing Messi and Argentina train at Inter Miami.
About five or six weeks ago, when Argentina was here, we invited him into our home, he added. “I watched every practice so I could see those amazing players in action on our field. The club’s history will forever be changed by this.
And I believe that the Argentinian team and coaching staff were amazing in terms of character, humility, and the proper kind of individuals. Unbelievably generous to our soccer team.
It is believed that Messi might join Inter Miami as early as next year, even though thethe fact that he is reportedly taking his time choosinga choice about his future because he is secure at PSG until June 2023 with an option for an additional 12 months.
Even yet, Neville refused to weigh in on rumors and dismissed them as “hypothetical.”
That, I believe, is speculative at best. I’m looking forward to watching the finest player in the world play at the World Cup alongside other great players,” remarked the former Manchester United and Everton defender.
I won’t comment on transfer rumors, but I will say that the Argentinian players I saw that week exemplified the highest standards of professionalism and patriotism.
