Twitter: It has happened once more. The World Cup is over for Germany.
Germany hasn’t made it to the knockout rounds of the World Cup for two years in a row. Hansi Flick’s team went out even though they beat Costa Rica 4ā2.
And this is all because Spain couldn’t beat Japan.
Spain dominated the first half and took the lead through Alvaro Morata. In the first 45 minutes, Spain had 83% of the ball. There could have only been one winner.
Japan, on the other hand, scored twice right after the break, before most of the fans had even sat down. Ritsu Doan beat Unai Simon with a shot, and then Ao Tanaka scored a very controversial goal with a tap-in.
Before the cross to Tanaka, it looked like the ball had gone out of play, but after a long VAR review, it was decided that the curve of the ball was not completely past the line.
Yep. The way the ball curves.
German fans were angry, but the reaction on Twitter was a bit different.
