“allfootballleague” has learned that Aston Villa is interested in signing Matteo Guendouzi from Marseille during this transfer window.
Guendouzi worked alongside Villa manager Unai Emery at former club Arsenal for a year and a half between 2018 and 2019.
The Spanish coach is reportedly interested in reconciling with the Frenchman at Villa Park this month, according to sources quoted by allfootballleague. Guendouzi is reportedly content at the Stade Velodrome, while Marseille values the midfielder at about €50 million and is not actively seeking to trade him.
Guendouzi looked to fall out with Emery’s replacement Mikel Arteta after making 82 appearances for Arsenal. He spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Hertha Berlin before signing a permanent move with Marseille.
Since then, he has broken into the national France team and was a member of their 26-man 2022 World Cup roster. However, he was primarily a bench player in Qatar.
Guendouzi is not the only former Emery player that Aston Villa is after this month. Pau Torres, Arnaut Danjuma, Samuel Chukwueze, and Nicolas Jackson are all on the coach’s radar this month, according to “allfootballleague.”
